The University of the Assumption (UA), an esteemed Archdiocesan Catholic Educational Institution, has proudly upheld its mission of forming academically competent, morally upright, and socially responsible Catholic leaders for over six decades. With a strong emphasis on truth, excellence, and service, the university fosters the integral development of individuals who will lead with integrity and compassion.
Since its inception, UA has continually adapted to meet the demands of a changing world while remaining true to its Catholic roots. Among its standout offerings under the School of Arts and Sciences is the Bachelor of Arts in Communication program, which has been shaping the next generation of media and communication professionals since its CHED Government Recognition on August 6, 2008.
The AB Communication program boasts a Radio and TV Laboratory, providing students with a dynamic space to hone their skills. A flagship feature is Radio Mariae, a platform where students create and manage diverse radio shows and programs. This facility not only serves as a training ground for AB Communication majors but also welcomes participation from other schools, fostering collaboration and community engagement.
In December 2010, the University of the Assumption’s AB Communication program inaugurated the first broadcast of Radio Mariae, a campus radio station designed primarily as a training platform for AB Communication students. Its key mission was to serve as a venue for both information dissemination and entertainment within the University of the Assumption (UA) community.
Over time, Radio Mariae underwent several improvements, reflecting a natural evolution in its content and programming. These changes led to the creation of new segments, not only highlighting the talents of students but also involving faculty members.
The reach of Radio Mariae is confined within the UA campus, with speakers strategically installed to ensure that both students and staff can enjoy its programming. Since the launch of its pilot broadcast, AB Communication students have been actively involved in all aspects of the station’s operations, from scriptwriting and research to disc-jockeying and technical direction, all under the supervision of the Laboratory Technician and Teacher-in-Charge.
Radio Mariae continues to evolve as it ventures into the digital space, offering listeners the ability to access content on platforms such as YouTube and Spotify, providing greater opportunities for learning and engagement.
When it comes to real-world learning experiences AB Communication students gain invaluable hands-on experience working alongside seasoned media and communication professionals. The program also includes an immersive internship with established media partners, equipping students with practical knowledge and industry insights.
AB Communication students also play a pivotal role in spearheading major university initiatives. From managing university-wide projects to producing high-quality marketing videos, students also do event coverage, coordination, and planning. Through this, they can demonstrate their creativity, leadership, and technical expertise.
Among the innovative programs launched by the program was the Pampanga Press Freedom Conference, a province-wide conference where campus journalists and communication students come together to talk about the pressing issues in the industry and conduct free journalism and broadcasting training.
Despite the eroding trust in media brought about by relentless attacks and the proliferation of fake news, the AB Communication program at the University of the Assumption remains steadfast in its mission to educate and empower a new generation of media and communication professionals. By emphasizing ethical practices, critical thinking, and truth-seeking, the program equips students with the skills and values necessary to navigate the complexities of the modern media landscape. Through hands-on training, research, and community engagement, AB Communication graduates are prepared to restore public trust in media and champion responsible, honest, and impactful storytelling.
The program encourages students to engage in meaningful research that addresses pressing issues in media and communication. By exploring topics such as media ethics, digital transformations, and the role of communication in societal change, students contribute to academic discourse and the betterment of the industry.
At the University of the Assumption, the AB Communication program is more than just a degree—it is a transformative journey that prepares students to make a lasting impact in the media and communication landscape. With its commitment to academic excellence, moral integrity, and social responsibility, the program ensures graduates are equipped to excel in their chosen careers while upholding the university’s Catholic values.

The University of the Assumption’s AB Communication program became my launchpad, grounding me in the art of ethical storytelling and sharp analysis. It molded me into a credible journalist, skilled in navigating truth and narrative with integrity. These same skills—now sharpened and broadened—have become the backbone of my work as an urban and regional planner, where every plan and proposal relies on clear vision and public trust.
